New homes across South Lanarkshire

The council’s Home+ programme is continuing to deliver much needed new homes across South Lanarkshire.

Supported by Scottish Government Affordable Housing Supply Grant funding, the council is working towards a target of delivering 1,300 new homes by 2027.

During 2023/24 a total of 104 new homes were delivered across South Lanarkshire. This included 38 homes completed at Avon Road, Larkhall in partnership with Cruden and Hub Southwest and 46 completed by Lovell Homes at the Glow Garren site off Wellhall Road, Hamilton.

Owen Wilson, a tenant from the Wellhall Road development, said: “I am over the moon with my new home, I could not have asked for more. The house itself is built to a high standard and the rooms are a generous size. The house heats up super quick, so I don’t need to keep my heating on for too long."

Phased handovers are underway at Brackenhill Farm, Hamilton, where 50 new homes have been delivered in partnership with Taylor Wimpey.

In addition to our exciting new build developments, through the Market Purchase Scheme, 165 former council homes across South Lanarkshire have been bought back to meet a variety of housing needs.

Future sites

Plans for 44 new build homes on the site of the former Cairns Primary School, Cairnswell Avenue, Cambuslang are well advanced.

This development will include a range of house types, suitable for households with varying needs and built to the highest standards of energy efficiency. These homes will have the latest technology, such as air source heat pumps, a fire suppression system and electric vehicle charging points.

Construction will shortly begin with completion expected in summer 2025.

Agreement has also been reached with Barratt Homes to deliver 49 homes at Brackenhill Farm in Hamilton and 40 at Jacktonhall in East Kilbride. Construction is underway at both sites with phased handovers expected to begin in Spring 2025.

An exciting new development on the site of the recently demolished McWhirter Centre and Nesbitt Centre, Raploch Street Larkhall is also planned, subject to planning approval.

The 19 homes planned for this site have been designed in consultation with South Lanarkshire University Health and Social Care Partnership. A key focus for the development is to ensure that specific needs identified for wheelchair and amenity standard housing are incorporated and that all property types within the site can be easily adapted to suit the changing needs of individuals or families over time.
